Javier Pinola extends contract
Argentinian defender Javier Pinola has extended his contract with 1. FC Nürnberg and can look forward to his ninth season with the club.
Having finished their Bundesliga season in style with a 3-2 victory over Werder Bremen, 1. FC Nürnberg confirmed another good piece of news for the club. Javier Pinola extended his contract, signing on until June 30th 2015.
“We’ve always said Javier Pinola has been important for us, both on and off the pitch. He’s been here for eight years and has the traits this club represents,” said Martin Bader, chairman of the club. “Nürnberg has long been my second home. I am delighted to be wearing the club colours again in the future and will continue to give everything for 1. FC Nürnberg,” explained Pinola.
The 30-year-old has been a part of the club since 2005, initially arriving on loan from Atletico Madrid before signing a permanent deal. He quickly became a regular in the starting eleven and celebrated a German Cup victory in the 2006/07 season. Sadly, he couldn’t prevent the club from being relegated the same year.
Pinola was a key figure in the club’s immediate return to the top flight and in the years that followed, he notably finished in sixth and tenth with 1. FC Nürnberg. “Pino” made his 215th appearance (six goals) for the club against Werder Bremen on the last day of the 2012/13 season. In the future, he is hoping to make many more.
